Matt McKearvy

CONCRETE: How would you describe your style of skating?
Matt: Mainly, all the street stuff. I like the parks, but mainly more street.

CONCRETE: What are some of your favorite street spots to skate around Nashville:
Matt: I like Legislative Plaza and Battle of Nashville.

CONCRETE: Do you get harassed by security when you skate the plaza?
Matt: Yeah. Definitely. I actually just got my board taken from there a while ago.

CONCRETE: So have you ever been arrested for skating?
Matt: Well, I was actually supposed to get arrested (at the plaza), but I ran from the cop. He kept my board and I got away.

CONCRETE: So do you skate any of the local parks?
Matt: Yeah, I like to go out to the concrete park at Franklin. They just built a new plaza out in Franklin.

CONCRETE: So what sponsorships do you have?
Matt: Right now I'm flow for Vox Shoes, ride for Label Skateboards and Rush Bearings and Rainy Day Apparel.

CONCRETE: How long have you been skating?
Matt: For about five and a half years.

CONCRETE: And how old are you now?
Matt: Eighteen.

CONCRETE: What initially made you want to start skating:
Matt: I roller bladed for maybe a year and decided that skateboarding was a lot more interesting. It was harder to do. It just caught my interest more.

CONCRETE: So what is about skateboarding that makes you wan to do it?
Matt: I just love going out and landing some tricks. It takes your mind off everything. There's no rules, no limits, no nothing. You can do anything you want to.

CONCRETE: What are some of the harder tricks that you consistently pull?
Matt: I like to do a lot of switch tricks, switch-front heels, switch-front side flips. Nollie flips, I like nollie tricks.

CONCRETE: When you were coming up, who did you look up to in skating?
Matt: I'm actually from Washington state. I moved here about five years ago, four years ago maybe. I mainly just looked up to a lot of guys up there in Washington and stuff. A bunch of the local skaters out there were just crazy. They were killing it. Here, I looked up to John Hood and just a bunch of skaters.

CONCRETE: What are some things you want to accomplish in skating:
Matt: Really just to have fun and keep skating. Whatever comes my way, just jump on it.

CONCRETE: Do you ever enter contests?
Matt: Yeah, I've entered a few, but I just get real nervous in the contests. I'm not doing as well as I usually do on the street.

CONCRETE: How would you describe the skate scene in Nashville?
Matt: Nashville's skate scene, I really like it. It's real chill. The other skate scenes are more competitive. Nashville's just like a bunch of homies. So it's real chill.

CONCRETE: Any last words or shout outs?
Matt: Just shout to everybody who's doing what they're doing, and follow your dreams.
