8 Ball - Light Up The Bomb
Memphis legend 8-Ball brings you a solo project on his label 8 Ways Entertainment. It's more like an 8-Ball presents, because many tracks feature artists from the 8 Ways Entertainment label. It's that classic M-Town sound. The opening track "M Gang" is a posse cut that runs a full seven minutes, and contains all the artitsts on 8 Ways. "Clear It Out" is for the gangsters, and "Time2hitdaclub" will get the club going crazy. Most of the production is by Montana Trax, and shines all over this project with lade back horns and keyboards on top of familiar boom-tick beats. 8-Ball continues to do his thing bringing heat for over ten years. One of the standout tracks is "The Greatest" which features Juvenile. Don't worry die hard fans, MJG makes several appearances including "This Ain't That" and Yo B*tch." There's a reason 8-Ball has been at the top for so long, and this is just another one.

Big Rich - Block Tested, Hood Approved
The Bay Area king of slang, E-40, presents Big Rich. Block Tested, Hood Approved is Big Rich’s debut album but his style and maturity give him the sound of a seasoned veteran. With E-40 cosigning for this young battle cat, there’s no way he can go wrong. Although he’s hailing from the home of the hyphy movement, this cat is more about reppin the hood than going dumb. You will find some upbeat, club tracks on the album but they are lightly sprinkled around. Of course the Yay Area is behind Rich, with features from E-40, B-Legit, Turf Talk, San Quinn, Mistah F.A.B. and Bailey to name a few. Other notable features include Sheek Louch of The L.O.X. and J-Hood of D-Block. This album is blazin’ hot like the golden state in July. Northern Cali is on point right now and you need to pay attention. |

Bone Thugs N Harmony - Thug Stories
The original Cleveland kings are back. Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony were the first to put Cleveland on the map. Their melodic flow and cryptic style set the trend for a long line of artists to come. They have been off the scene for some time now. Four years to be exact. This time they return with three of the original five members. Bizzy Bone and Flesh-N-Bone are absent on this mission but that doesn’t stop Krayzie, Layzie and Wish from ridin’ as hard as ever. This album is surprisingly more like the early Bone Thugs-N-Harmony projects than any of the more recent projects they’ve put out. It features the singles “Don't Stop” and “Fire”. Overall, this album has a more soulful sound to it. Fans will be pleasantly surprised and those who thought they fell off will have plenty of reasons to think again. It’s a thoroughly impressive effort from the abbreviated crew. Definitely worth checking out. |

Mz Mack - Raw Raps & Bra Straps
Somewhere out in the middle of western Kentucky is a little city named Princeton. That's where you can find Mz. Mack aka Sara Mack, The Queen of Kentucky Hip-Hop. Her lyrical content is basically the life and times of a single mother living in rural America. Songs like "Suga & Spice" and "Raw Raps & Bra Straps" celebrate the feminine spirit. "Always B His Lady" is a modern day "Stand by Your Man." Mz. Mack raps and sings on this CD. It's her singing that shines the brightest, especially on "That's How I Live." For the most part her lyrics are pretty simple and the production isn't that complex. It's raw hip-hop from the Blue Grass state. Grab some Makers Mark, make a drink and check out how they do it in Kentucky. |

DJ UNK
Coming straight out the A from The Big Oomp camp is DJ Unk. He's keeping that crunk, ATL attitude alive. Unk started as a DJ and wrote raps for his mixtapes. Now days, he's got the whole U.S. bouncing to his catchy hooks. He's already made track 3 "Walk It Out" a Southern, club classic. "Bring It Back" and "Hit The Dance Floor" are also for the club. Most of the beats are by DJ Montay, the self-described crunkest DJ on the planet. That alone should give you a good idea of how it's going down on this CD. DJ Montay even makes a guest appearance along with Da Great Yola on the standout "Don't Make Us.' Some of the other guests include DJ Jelly, Dem Franchize Boys, Dru, Jazze Pha, Loko, Big Korey and label mate Baby D. Don't expect a lyrical explosion on this one, but you can expect some banging beats, and some choruses that make you want to punch somebody. Unk gives you a softer side on "Thinking of You" which is a dedication to deceased and incarcerated friends. He's definitely repping for the "Ayyy."

DJ Drama Ft Blood Raw - Indictment Papers
Mr. Florida aka Bloodraw is the newest solo artist coming out on Young Jeezy's CTE label. He's already a member of the group USDA on the same label. Now this Panama City native is the first Florida MC to be featured on DJ Drama's Gangsta Grillz series. The title Indictment Papers comes from a federal case that Blood Raw was caught up. Some how he beat the case, and now he's coming out hard with a new lease on life. Of course Jeezy shows up on a few tracks as do the rest of USDA. The stand out tracks are "Indictment Papers," "Born N Raised" and "Gangsta Shit." It may not be as legendary as Jeezy's "Trap or Die: Gangsta Grillz," but it's close. All Star - Starlitos Way
All Star, Cashville's next heavy hitter, delivers another burner to keep his name hot in the streets. From the beginning he let's you know he's serious by telling you he's not your friend. Some one else he addresses in the song "Not Your Friend" is Pac-Man Jones or as Star calls him "Mr. Punt Returner." Star accuses him of asking for a police escort to his car. There's no doubt this guy is lyrical. He shows it throughout the mix. Cashville's Prince shows his verbal versatility on the "Crazy" remix, rapping next to Gnarles Barkley, and on "I'm Miss My Homie" which features Nashville singer Cruna. If your a All-Star fan you won't be dissapointed, and if you're a hater you'll still be pissed off. |

Free Agents Vol. 1
Young Fanta and Mike G are the Free Agents. These young fellas are incredibly lyrical. They drop well crafted rhymes with inventive metaphors. It's some young hustlin', chick chasing type of flows. Their rhymes fit nicely on all the jacked beats and the few that Young Fanta produced. This mix CD is kind of hard to find. A follow up is in order; one with more reach to it. |
